2015 MOCOFB ELITE SIX Rankings - Final: Regular Season

RK

TEAM PTS VOTES LW

1

DAMASCUS (10-0) 9 first place votes

  • Easily the best team in Moco. This year's team seems even better than last year's state finalist. Funk and Vinson are leading the charge and this team has everything to pull off the 14-0 undefeated state championship season. Step 1 starts with Oakdale, who are no slouches. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

  • Completed the regular season undefeated for the 8th time in the modern era. Will host a good Oakdale team on Friday. -Damon Anderson

2

QUINCE ORCHARD (9-1)

  • The Cougars have outclassed everyone they've played this season except for Damascus. Since that game they have made all the adjustments needed in order to make a serious run for a state championship. Can Barlow and Beander lead this team to a state championship? First things first though, they must beat Blair. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

  • Closed out the season by shutting down a potent PB offense. Host Blair on Friday to open the playoffs. -Damon Anderson

44 9/9 2

3

SHERWOOD (10-0)*

  • The most improved team of the year. All this team does is win. No matter who it's against, these kids show up and play their butts off! I knew of Simms before the season, but was not a believer, but the Northwest game showed me that he was the real deal on both sides of the ball. Along with Bliss and Levy, they look like the 90s Cowboys Triplets. I'm highly interested in seeing what they do in post season play, as they are in the toughest division in 4A. Hosting Bel Air in the first round. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

  • Undefeated on the field for the 1st time since '08. Host Bel-Air on Friday (I hope they play the Fresh Prince theme). -Damon Anderson

36 9/9 3

4

SENECA VALLEY (9-1)

  • The Screaming Eagles were one of the most impressive teams this year fielding under 40 players. These kids are well conditioned and are playing lights out. Have the tough task of playing in the hardest division in the state of Maryland playoffs. Feliz-Platt, Golston, and crew are going to have their hands full with those studs in Linganore. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

  • Closed out the season with a decisive win over rival Gburg. Will travel to Frederick county to take on a very good Linganore squad in the 1st round of the playoffs. -Damon Anderson

28 9/9 4

5

NORTHWEST (7-3)

  • The Jaguars had a rough season, and hindsight being 20-20, they had the hardest schedule of the "Elite" teams play 3 of the consistent elite 6, and even played others that received votes at times. As the season came to an end, it seems that they are hitting a stride to be ready for what awaits them in post season play. While it seems inevitable that we are going to see Northwest at Quince Orchard again in week 12 for the 4th straight year, they better not overlook Richard Montgomery. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

  • Finished the season with a solid 7-3 record. Will travel to RM on Friday. -Damon Anderson

PAINT BRANCH (8-2)

  • Tough season ender for them against the Cougars last week. The Panthers played well all year long except against their fellow "Elite Sixers." This was a tough decision choosing between them and the Rockets of Richard Montgomery, but I had to go with a comparison of Athletes and Paint Branch fields a better team. Not saying the result of the Sherwood game would've been different if they were at full power, but they did lose a LB for that game. Either way, congratulations to the Panthers for the season and I look forward to seeing Coach Nesmith getting his boys ready for next year. -Jason Hamilton-Brown

RICHARD MONTGOMERY (9-1)

  • Surprised the county by finishing 9-1 on the season. The rockets are in the playoffs for the 1st time since '05. Will host NW in a regular season rematch. -Damon Anderson
