2017 MOCOFB ELITE-SIX - WEEK THREE

RK TEAM PTS VOTES

1

DAMASCUS (10 1st place votes)

2-0. LW: #1

Cruised against then #4 Sherwood, 42-7. The Swarmin' Hornets look as dangerous as they've been and a thorough beat down of one of the highly ranked teams in the D.C. Metro area is a telling statement of their strength on both sides of the ball. The Gage Dickens-TD Ayo Durojaiye combo (464 combined rush yards) will wear out any defensive front. Hornets host 0-2 Rockville in Week 3.

60 10/10

2

QUINCE ORCHARD

2-0. LW: #2

Outlasted a tough Blair team and pulled away with a 34-7 win. Doc Bonner is Cam Newton-esque in his command of the Cougars offense (324 pass yards, 100 rush yards). They travel to Clarksburg coming off a 20-13 defeat to Urbana.

49 10/10

3

NORTHWEST

2-0. LW: #3

Won 48-13 in home opener versus Walter Johnson. The Jags are currently the highest scoring team scoring 101 points (50.5 PPG). But they face the county's stingiest defense on Friday against rival Seneca Valley for the 19th battle for The King's Trophy.

41 10/10

4

SENECA VALLEY

2-0. LW: #5

Crushed the struggling Gaithersburg Trojans, 42-2 in a "home" game at Harvill Stadium. The Seneca Valley defense has allowed a county low 2 points in two games. The road warriors play the Jags for the battle of Germantown. Seneca Valley leads the rivalry 11 wins to 7 loses, but the boys of black & silver have won three of the last four.

23 10/10

5

PAINT BRANCH

2-0. LW: #6

Paint Branch handled business with a sound win at Richard Montgomery, 21-9. The Panthers defense has proven to be the strength of the team dating back to last season. They followed Week 1's shutout win with a single-TD allowance against the Rockets. RM averaged nearly 34 PPG last season and started the season with a 42-14 win versus Churchill; none of that meant anything to Paint Branch last Friday. The Panthers travel to 0-2 Whitman in Week 3; the only scoreless team in MoCo.

20 10/10

6

SHERWOOD

1-1. LW: #4

The Warriors were no favorites against the #1 team in the county but a 35-point difference raised eyebrows. Thanks to Andrew Comeau's late 4th quarter touchdown, the defeat would have been the first shutout loss to Damascus since 2003. Sherwood is on the road again, this time against a tough 2-0 Einstein team.
