DAMASCUS (14 1st place votes) 1-0. LW: #1, (with 16 1st place votes)
Coach O: The win versus Blake will turn out to be more impressive as the year goes by. Blake is a really good team and Damascus is a great program.
Cohen: Damascus got a run for its money against Blake to start the season, but the Swarmin' Hornets escaped with a win. Though it's clear this Damascus team has a lot of work to do. |

QUINCE ORCHARD (3 1st place vote) 1-0. LW: #2, (with 1 1st place vote)
Coach O: Not a big test against BCC, but nevertheless, handled it with ease. That's what the really good teams do. QO is so explosive and well coached, it's scary.
Cohen: In a game that was cut short by weather, QO still hung 50 on B-CC in a 50-0 victory. The post-Doc Bonner era got off to a great start for John Kelley. The defense, which returns the vast majority of its starters from last year, is rock solid. |

NORTHWEST 1-0. LW: #3
Coach O: They beat a pretty good Wootton team, but not as convincingly as you want to see a top team beat an unranked team. They are so well coached, that they will take care of business.
Cohen: Northwest was tested in its first game by Wootton, but the Jaguars passed. Weather pushed this game into Saturday, and it was on Saturday where Northwest really took control. |
69 LW: 72 |
17/17 LW: 17/17 |

PAINT BRANCH 1-0. LW: #4
Coach O: I am so tempted to move them up. Talent everywhere on this team. I fully expect them to be a top seed in the 4A North.
Cohen: Paint Branch did exactly what was expected of it as it destroyed Northwood in its first game of the season. With Norman Douglas at the helm, this offense will roll once again. |
48 LW: 43 |
16/17 LW: 16/17 |

JAMES H. BLAKE 0-1. LW: #5
Coach O: I know they lost, but they went TO Damascus and played the best program in MoCo toe-to-toe. If they play like this all year, they will go 9-1. |
19 LW: 21 |
11/17 LW: 12/17 |

MONTGOMERY BLAIR 1-0. LW: NR
Coach O: I am a huge fan of what Coach Fields has done at Blair. They are a consistent winner. I will not punish them for beating a decent a Watkins Mill team and losing a great back like Watkins. They will march on!
Cohen: Blair looked impressive in its win over Watkins Mill. The Blazers have one of the better offensive line-defensive line combos in the county, and Chris Watkins looks to be in for a big season, starting with a great showing against Watkins Mill. |
