2018 MOCOFB ELITE-SIX - WEEK THREE

RK TEAM PTS VOTES

1

DAMASCUS (12 1st place votes)

2-0. LW: #1, (with 14 1st place votes)

Coach Owens: The Hornets have beaten 2 good teams to start the year. Everyone doubting them should try to walk around with that bullseye on your back and the pressure to keep the streak going. Those young men are just handling their business.

Matt Cohen: The Swarmin' Hornets certainly passed their first road test of the year. Behind another great pefromance from TD Ayo-Durojaiye, the Damascus was especially strong in the latter half of the game, pulling away to beat Sherwood. Damascus now has sole possession of the nation's second longest win streak with 44 in a row after Wise lost.

Lee O: Essentially, Damascus reigns at number 1 until someone can figure out how to stop them. It's extremely hard at any level to just keep winning.

2

QUINCE ORCHARD (5 1st place vote)

2-0. LW: #2, (with 3 1st place vote)

Coach Owens: The Cougars dominated a good Blair team. I have a feeling they will just get better and better all year and continue to dominate their competition.

Lee O: QO keeps the edge in second place mainly due to their defense, only allowing 6 points through 2 games, pitching a shutout and only allowing 6 points to a good Blair team.

Matt Cohen: Against a solid Blair team, QO dominated. The quarterback situation for the Cougars looks to be just fine, and Marquez Cooper is already off to a great start in the 2018 season.

3

NORTHWEST

2-0. LW: #3

Coach O: I apologize for moving you guys down. Realistically, these top four team are pretty even, but I did see some of the WJ game and felt like Northwest is still a work in progress.

Matt Cohen: The Josh Forburger led Walter Johnson offense didn't give the Jags any trouble at all as they rolled to a 34-7 win. After WJ opened up the scoring in this game, it was all Northwest from there, scoring 34 unanswered points.

4

PAINT BRANCH

2-0. LW: #4

Coach Owens: It's tough to move a team up over another team that won(Northwest), but the win over RM is very impressive. Expect the Panthers to roll this week.

Matt Cohen: Another blowout win for the Panthers, but this time over a stronger opponent in Richard Montgomery. The Panthers haven't played the most difficult schedule so far, but they've done exactly what's been expected off them in both games.

LW: 48

5

JAMES H. BLAKE

1-1. LW: #5

Coach Owens: Great bounce back by the Bengals, handling an inferior team with ease is what good teams do. This is a legit playoff team.

Lee O: Blake hung tough with #1 Damascus and pitched a shutout in their second game, Although they have a loss, They are still in the picture in the elite 6 of the county.

Matt Cohen: Losing Terrill Simms didn't seem to slow down Blake at all. Brendan Lejuene and the Bengals dominated Springbrook 36-0. This Blake team has Division I caliber talent on both sides of the ball, easing the loss of Simms.

30

LW: 19

15/17

LW: 11/17

6

WINSTON CHURCHILL

2-0. LW: NR

Coach Owens: Dominated a decent Wootton team. The Bulldogs seem to be on a playoff path if they continue playing this way. I've heard from several people that they are the real deal and could put a scare in some of the teams in front of them.

Matt Cohen: Well who saw this coming? Churchill impressed in stretches last season, and they've been on fire coming into the 2018 season. Quarterback Michael Janis and running back Patrick Richardson have emerged as stars. Churchill has now beaten RM, and blew out Wootton 49-8. This certainly isn't a traditional power, but Montgomery County needs to watch out for the Bulldogs this year.
