2018 MOCOFB ELITE-SIX - WEEK FIVE

RK TEAM PTS VOTES

1

DAMASCUS (12 1st place votes)

4-0. LW: #1, (with 10 1st place votes)

Cohen: Another blowout win for Damascus, increasing the streak to 46 wins in a row. The Damascus win was highlighted by an interception by Austin Ambush which he caught with one hand, and ran 80 yards back for a touchdown.

2

QUINCE ORCHARD (5 1st place vote)

3-1. LW: #2, (with 7 1st place vote)

Lee O: Dropped a close game to a very good Bullis team, but they are still the cream of the crop of the public schools.
Miller: I still believe QO is the best public school team, even with the loss to Bullis.

Dewey: Even though they fell last week to Bullis, it was on the road to a private school who can recruit it's players away from elite public programs like QO. So while a loss is a loss and I no doubt know Coach Kelley and his staff and players felt they could have won. I won't knock them a spot. I still believe they are the second best public school team in MoCo - at least until they are test by PB and NW later this season.

JHB: Coming off a tough loss that might expose weaknesses in the Cougars for teams this year. Unfortunately, it isn't going to help Kennedy this week.

Coach Owens: No shame in losing to a private school with the money and resources Bullis has going for them. Poor Kennedy will have to face an angry group of Cougars.

Cohen: Couldn't get anything working against Bullis, in a game that did not live up to the hype. QO's run defense was gashed by Eric McKan, and the Bullis defense shut down Brian Plummer and the Cougar offense. The game wasn't as close as the 22-14 score made it appear.

3

NORTHWEST

4-0. LW: #3

Lee O: Northwest dismantled Gaithersburg on the 20th anniversary game night. They looked great and were clicking on all cylinders.

JHB: Coming off a very good performance vs. Gaithersburg, the Jaguars have their work cut out for them for sure this week against Good Counsel.

Coach Owens: Another team just rolling along. Will face their best team of the year this week against nationally ranked Good Counsel.

Cohen: Northwest is one of four unbeatens remaining in Montgomery County. The Jaguars have shutdown Josh Forburger, beaten Wootton at full strength, and now recorded back to back shut outs. The road gets much harder, as national top 25 team Good Counsel comes to the Black Hole.

4

PAINT BRANCH

4-0. LW: #4

JHB: First team to score on them this season, but didn't change the gap in the final score of the game. I expect to see the Panthers continue their crushing ways this week against Springbrook.

Coach Owens: Finally tested vs Blair and soared in the end. RM win looking much better too.

Cohen: For the first time in 2018, Paint Branch allowed points as Blair put up 14 on the Panthers. Though Blair didn't slow down Paint Branch at all as the Panthers remained undefeated. PB leads MoCo in points for and points allowed, but strength of schedule holds them back.

5

JAMES H. BLAKE

3-1. LW: #5

JHB: The Bengals have definitely continued to improve year in and year out and are legitimate threat in the 3A this year. Regularly going into Seneca week is a daunting task. Unfortunately, The Screamin' Eagles aren't soaring as high as they once did and will most likely get eaten for dinner this week.

Coach Owens: They shook off their Poolesville curse and will go into Seneca week as a heavy favorite. Cannot wait to see them play Churchill.

Cohen: Blake still hasn't missed a beat after losing their star quarterback. Many, including myself, thought the Poolesville Falcons would give the Bengals a test, but it turned into a blowout as Blake won 42-6.

6

WINSTON CHURCHILL

4-0. LW: #6

JHB: The Bulldogs are another surprise of this season. They are doing all that a team can do in Football: Beat every team placed in front of them. I expect them to be 5-0 when the clock hits 0:00 next week at B-CC.

Coach Owens: This is a solid TEAM that doesn't make mistakes and just does all the little things right. QB Janis is my MVP right now.

Cohen: Oh, just another 40+ point game for Churchill. That's the third straight week the Bulldogs offense has put 40+ points, after putting up 49 in Week 2, 49 in Week 3 and now 42 in Week 4. This offense is the real deal.
