DAMASCUS (11
1st place votes)
6-0.
LW: #1,
(with 13 1st place votes)
Lee O: Another week another dismantled opponent. We are watching
excellence in action.
JHB: Easily thwarted rival Clarksburg not allowing them to even
touch the scoreboard. I expect more of the same as they head to Watkins
Mill.
Coach Owens: Just rolling towards playoffs.
Cohen: 48 wins a in a row. Two more for the state record, and
there isn’t anyone in the Hornets’ path capable of stopping them. The
Damascus-Oakdale playoff game hype is already starting to kick into high
gear. |

QUINCE
ORCHARD (6
1st place vote)
5-1. LW: #2,
(with 4 1st place vote)
Lee O:
Their defense stifled one of the best offenses in the county in PB and
held them to 8 points
JHB: Huge win on the road and statement game in the 4A Division
in Maryland defeating Paint Branch. The Cougars asserted their dominance
and look to continue their winning ways again Einstein this week.
Coach Owens: Very impressed with their offensive line. My old
bones could get a yard or two behind those studs.
Cohen: QO faced a Paint Branch team that had stuffed the stat
sheet all season long against inferior competition, and ran right over
them, literally. Running back Marquez Cooper went for over 200 rushing
yards and two scores. Paint Branch couldn’t do anything to stop him. QO
has proven itself to be the best 4A MoCo team, as the ever important
QO-Northwest game looms. |

NORTHWEST
5-1.
LW: #4
Lee O:
Pulled away in the second half against Churchill.
JHB: Solidified themselves through a tough fought victory on the
road against a previously undefeated Churchill team. Life doesn't get
any easier this week as they head to Richard Montgomery.
Coach Owens: Quality road win vs a good team during an emotional
week. That's good coaching.
Cohen: Northwest faced a really solid Churchill team, and easily
could have folded coming off a blowout loss and blowing a big lead
against the Bulldogs. They didn’t. Northwest put it together in the late
stages of the game, and pulled away to win the game. Beating Churchill
is huge for Northwest, possibly keeping it on track to get the top seed
in the playoffs should they win out. |

PAINT
BRANCH
5-1. LW: #3
Lee O:
Couldn't do anything offensively against QO, they looked lost and
overmatched, which isn't normal for the talent-laden Panthers.
JHB: Outmatched and outclassed by Quince Orchard last week. I
feel for the Trojans this week, as the Panthers plan to bounce back with
a vengeance this week.
Coach Owens: Fought hard and could learn and get better from the
loss.
Cohen: Paint Branch was the County’s leader in points for and
points against coming into this week, but they hadn't faced a top tier
opponent. This week, they faced Quince Orchard, and were dominated.
Paint Branch is certainly good. But not on the same tier as Damascus, QO
and Northwest. |

JAMES H.
BLAKE
5-1. LW: #5
Lee O:
Beat up on Northwood.
JHB: The Bengals are rolling, but this week is going to see who's
really vying for number 5 in the Moco Elite 6. Churchill is coming and
they are looking to get that rematch against the Jaguars in the
playoffs.
Coach Owens: They are now in their playoff stretch. Almost every
week is a must win (good news is that they can).
Cohen: The Bengals just keep winning. The Bengals haven’t lost
since hanging tough with Damascus in the first game of the season.
Brendan LeJeune, who is filling in for injured starting quarterback
Terrill Simms Jr., threw for a school record five touchdown passes this
week. Not a bad backup option. |

WINSTON
CHURCHILL
5-1. LW: #6
Lee O:
Hung with NW for most of the game, but NW's talent wore out Churchill
and the Jags eventually pulled away. Churchill is still a good team.
JHB: Devastating loss at home that was a lot closer than the
final score seemed. The Bulldogs are itching to get back out there, but
this time they're the ones on the road to face Blake. Can they prevent
losing 2 weeks in a row? We'll see this Friday.
Coach Owens: Almost won't cut it this week. Need to rebound and
beat Blake.
Cohen: Despite suffering its first loss of the season, Churchill
proved everything it needed to. Churchill found itself down by 21 to
Northwest, and came all the way back to tie the game at 28. Northwest
ended up pulling away in the end, but Churchill showed that they are in
fact a contender this season. Willie Williams has engineered an
incredible turnaround on Gainsborough Road. |
