2018 MOCOFB ELITE-SIX - WEEK NINE

RK TEAM PTS VOTES

1

DAMASCUS (10 1st place votes)

8-0. LW: #1, (with 10 1st place votes)

JHB: Now currently holding the countries longest win streak in High School Football. Regularly going into Seneca Valley week would put the fear of ending that streak, but unfortunately this game is going to be over pretty quick. Looks like Damascus is going to set the State Record on a Legendary program. How fitting for two Al Thomas built programs to face off to have the opportunity to set another state record.

Coach Owens: Congrats! 50 in a row is amazing, but I'm sure they are more focused on another State Title.

Lee Oliver: Another win and now into a tie with arguably the greatest dynasty in MD football in Urbana. They are a machine.

Matt Cohen: Damascus is now in sole possession of the nation's longest winning streak at 50 games. At the same time, the Hornets tied the Maryland record for consecutive wins. Damascus will go for the Maryland record against a bad Seneca Valley team this week.

2

QUINCE ORCHARD (7 1st place vote)

7-1. LW: #2, (with 7 1st place vote)

JHB: Can't be more prepared going into Northwest week than pitching to back to back shut outs. This week they had to the Black Hole, a place the Cougars are all too familiar with. No question that this is the game of the week.

Coach Owens: Cannot wait to see them challenged. Not sure if there is anyone on their schedule that will do it though.

Lee Oliver: QO posted their 4th shutout of the year, beating a weak Wheaton squad.

Matt Cohen: The Cougars rolled against Wheaton, as expected. Huge game on tap for QO this week as they'll visit Northwest. The top seed, as it always seems to be, in the region will be on the line. QO has the best point differential in Montgomery County.

NORTHWEST

7-1. LW: #3

JHB: It's put up or shut up time for the Jaguars. Sure they've pulled out some close hard fought games on the road, but here is their true test of where they stand in the 4A division. Northwest with have to play lights out and put it all on the line if they want to avoid being blown out by Quince Orchard at home.

Coach Owens: Super excited to see what they can do versus QO.

Lee Oliver: NW beat another team they are more talented than.

Matt Cohen: Northwest cruised to a win against Whitman this week. Last year, Northwest was unable to beat QO in two attempts. Jack Anders and the Jaguars offense have a chance to get revenge on their home field this week. Without a doubt, this is the game of the week.

4

PAINT BRANCH

7-1. LW: #4

JHB: This team decimated what I believed was a better Sherwood team. They exposed them as pretenders, but there's no rest for the weary as they welcome the Bengals this week.

Coach Owens: Probably their most impressive win this year, hammered a good Sherwood team.

Lee Oliver: Paint Branch put up 35 on rival Sherwood and are back to their winning ways.

Matt Cohen: Paint Branch's defense held a solid Sherwood team just seven points, while putting up 35. This Paint Branch team continues to beat up on the teams that clearly aren't in their tier. The Panthers host Blake this week in what is a measuring stick game for both teams.

5

WINSTON CHURCHILL

7-1. LW: #5

JHB: Churchill is definitely doing what powerhouses are doing and that's blowing out weaker teams. I expect them to go assert some more Moco Dominance this week at Frederick.

Coach Owens: This team will upset someone in the playoffs this year. Oh, and cool new helmets.

Lee Oliver: Churchill dismantled a terrible SV team and continued to prove they are a team to reckon with this year.

Matt Cohen: Churchill's offense rolled over a Seneca Valley team that has now lost seven in a row. Churchill certainly has everyone's attention now, and this offense continues to roll. Churchill is at Frederick this week, a long road trip for a game the Bulldogs should cruise in.

JAMES H. BLAKE

6-2. LW: #6

JHB: Got back on track this week after the debacle at Churchill. They have a tough feat this week as they go one on one with Paint Branch. Against county powers they're 0-2, but if they can pull the upset, it'll definitely be a statement.

Lee Oliver: Blake beat up on a mediocre Rockville team. They still are in the playoff hunt, but need to win out and get some out of county help.

Matt Cohen: Watkins Mill is really making a solid argument for this spot, but I still think Blake is a better team. Blake rolled over a Rockville team that had been gaining some momentum coming into the game, winning 47-8. Blake has to prove itself against Paint Branch this week, or they'll fall off my Elite Six ballot for the first time this year. No more moral victories for this team, it needs a signature win.
