2019 MOCOFB ELITE-SIX - WEEK 5

RK TEAM PTS VOTES

1

QUINCE ORCHARD (16 1st place votes)

4-0. LW: #1, (with 17 1st place votes)

Jason H-B: The Cougars are just playing on another level right now and have shutout opponents in 3/4 games. The question this week isn't if Clarksburg has a chance to win, but can they be the second team to score this season?

"Hambonepack": Can Clarksburg hold QO under 50 points in the first half?

"Amateragi": 64-0 at halftime. 'Nuff said.

Coach Owens: Who will challenge them in 4A?

2

NORTHWEST (1 1st place vote)

4-0. LW: #2

Jason H-B: Northwest showed RM that they're good, but the Jaguars are in a higher bracket. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge this week as they head to Gaithersburg.

"Hambonepack": Gaithersburg should make it competitive for a possession or two.

"Amateragi": This new-look Jaguars offense looks impossible to stop. Its effectiveness will be truly tested in Week 8 vs. QO, who's given up 7 points in four games.

Coach Owens: Impressive win against a tough RM squad.

3

DAMASCUS

2-2. LW: #3

Jason H-B: Congrats to Seneca Valley for their first win of the season last week. Unfortunately, Damascus' "Revenge of the Swarmin' Hornets" our rages on and they're the guests this week.

"Hambonepack": Seneca Valley visits the Hive, I can't be the only one who feels that MOCO football is worse off when the Screaming Eagles aren't competitive.

"Amateragi": Anyone who's seen them play should know they may be the best 2-2 team around. Their loss column will likely not change even deep into November.

Coach Owens: Solid win vs Einstein, but still feel they haven't peaked yet.

4

PAINT BRANCH

3-1. LW: #5

Jason H-B: Completely shut down any talk that they aren't a top tier team and program this week by vanquishing an undefeated Blair team. I expect a valiant effort from the Knights of Wheaton, but victory will belong to the Panthers.

"Hambonepack": Rolling, rolling, rolling... Wheaton visits this week... rolling, rolling rolling!

"Amateragi": The offense is no longer a question mark, and that Week 2 loss vs. NW will likely look better over time. If they stay this prolific, they'll be a dark horse state contender.

Coach Owens: Beats up Blair. Like they should have. Would love to see them beat someone ranked above them instead of hearing about it.

5

WALTER JOHNSON

4-0. LW: #6

Jason H-B: 4-0. I'm shocked that I'm voting for the Wildcats, but kudos to them and to Coach Hurd for turning that program around. They aren't just undefeated, but they are beating teams by margins, the way elite teams should. I think Richard Montgomery is going to have their hands full this week when they come to town.

"Hambonepack": What is their mascot, is it a Wildcat or Mighty Moo aka Mad Cow? Inquiring minds want to know.

"Amateragi": The Wildcats face their first true test and soon we'll know for sure whether they're really E6 material.

Coach Owens: Best team since the Kevin Brant and Hunter Young team in 1998.

RICHARD MONTGOMERY

3-1. LW: #4

"Amateragi": Tough loss, but it'll hopefully be a good motivation going into another big game vs. WJ.

LW: 16/17

Jason H-B on Rockville: "4-0 is 4-0. You can only play the competition you're given, and the Rams have beat everyone. Everyone will say "Week 1 would've been a loss," and you're probably right, but the fates on their side and so am I. They should get a good challenge out of a very talented Watkins Mill."

Coach Owens on Rockville: "I realize one was a forfeit, not their fault, but a 4-0 start is a 4-0 start."

"Hambonepack" on Rockville: "When was the last time Rockville was 4-0 and leading the county in defensive points given up, shhhh, we're not counting QO?"

Received Votes: Rockville (7 pts, 6 votes), Blake (6 pts, 2 votes), Sherwood (5 pts, 3 votes), Watkins Mill (3 pts, 2 votes), Blair (1 pt, 1 vote).

Panel: M. Cornejo, D. Anderson, M. Miller, T. Changuris, J. Hamilton-Brown, K. Bratt-Pfotenhauer, M. Marty, N. Owens, T. Peters, C. Grier, L. Oliver, B. Bradford, E. Case, E. Cammack, "Hambonepack", "BigFred", "amateragi."
