Damascus has the toughest schedule on 2011

Does Damascus have the toughest schedule in 2011?
by Michael Cornejo

The 4A is stacked with more teams in recent years due to the realignment of the 2011-12 seasons leaving the 3A with six teams. The 3A this year includes Damascus, Rockville, and Seneca Valley to round up the best of the division along with Einstein, Northwood, and Watkins Mill. Northwood has only gone .500 once since its reincarnation in 2006 while both Einstein and Watkins Mill are renewed with new head coaches this year with the departure of Coaches Joe Rydzewski and Mike Bonavia.

Based on last year's win-loss records, Damascus' 2011 opponents finished with a combined 59-46 record. That's a +13 ratio that tops all schools in Montgomery County. They will be playing against seven teams that finished .500 or better; four of those making it to the playoffs.

Graduation hit Damascus hard when they graduated some talented names in some key positions which include Connor Frazier (Towson), Brandon Phelps (Virginia), Joel Ross (Appalachian State), and Taylor Krenzke (Monmouth), among others.

Barring injuries, sophomore Chase Williams is the next to be molded into a leader in a manner similar to his predecessor in Frazier.
Junior Zach Bradshaw is the big name in big D this year having garnered multiple interest to some big schools which include Boston College and a slew of ACC teams. The 6'4 wide receiver / linebacker proved dominant in their game/scrimmage against Quince Orchard last week.

Below is a chart of ten county teams with the toughest schedule via cumulative 2010 opponent win-lose records.
