DIVISION I - Football Championship Series
The Villanova Wildcats defeated Appalachian State Mountaineers 42-24 to advance to the Division I - FCS semifinals. They will play Eastern Washington (fresh from a 38-31 overtime win vs North Dakota State) next week.
On the other side of the playoff bracket, Delaware advanced by beating New Hampshire 16-3 on Friday. The Blue Hens will play Georgia Southern next week.
MoCo Players with teams still alive in the FCS Playoffs:
Villanova: LB Jacob Wade (Blair), LB Delano Ferguson (Kennedy), and P Mark Hamilton (Good Counsel).
Delaware: Silver Spring native OL Rob McDowell, DT Thomas Huff (Sherwood), and TE Cody Magill (Quince Orchard).
DIVISION II PLAYOFFSA heart-breaker today with Shepherd falling to Delta State 29-17 in the D2 national semifinals in Cleveland, Mississippi. Had the Rams won, they would have advanced next week to play either University of Minnesota Duluth or NW Missouri State for the D2 National Championship in Florence, Alabama.
The Shepherd Rams (12-2) have 10 players from MoCo in their roster. They include WR Scott Riddell (Quince Orchard), DB Elijah Davis (Wheaton), RB Tommy Addison (Quince Orchard), LB Ben Minturn (Damascus), DL Bryan Letourneau (Damascus), FB Michael Nittoli (Good Counsel), FB Tommy Whalen (Damascus), OL Steve Baisey (Damascus), OL Cody Walko (Seneca Valley), and WR Karim Jones (Quince Orchard).
For th 6th time in a row, the D3 National Championship will be between University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Mount Union (OH). There are no MoCo players are on either team.
