4A WEST REGIONAL - FRIDAY 7:00 PM at CARUSO MEMORIAL FIELD
GAITHERSBURG TROJANS vs SHERWOOD WARRIORS

Many are claiming that Gaithersburg dominated Sherwood in their week 5 meeting which the Warriors won 17-14. Sherwood has since proved its mettle defeating some tough opponents along the way including a week 10 win over Quince Orchard.
This is the first playoff game between Gaithersburg and Sherwood since 2002. That 2002 game propelled Sherwood onto the State Finals where they fell against Parkdale. The Trojans are enjoying their first double-digit win season since 2000 where the Trojans went undefeated and winning the Maryland state title against none other than Sherwood.
This game features two of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in Montgomery County in Zach Fetters and AJ Pignone. Fetters is looking to push the envelop by leading the revamped Trojans one game closer to the state finals. Not bad for a team that has since doubled the amount of wins total in all of last year. It helps when you are surrounded with giants in the wide receiver position where he has two 6'5ers, a couple of 6'4ers and a 6'2er. Simba Gwashavamhu is a reception king among his peers and will pose a tall threat to the Warriors. AJ Pignone showed no signs of slowing down even with a new head coach calling the shots. It isn't easy being Sherwood, a consistent double-digit-winner almost every year this decade. A win tonight can top last year's 10-win season.

3A WEST REGIONAL - FRIDAY 7:00 PM at The HIVE
DAMASCUS HORNETS vs QUINCE ORCHARD COUGARS

Eric Wallich is the man. He continues to improve in win totals since his arrival two years ago. From 7 wins, to 8, and now he has his alma mater undefeated at 11-0. Damascus isn't looking for Dan Makosy much these days thanks to having Montgomery County's highest ranking and only undefeated record in 2010. His atomic bomb goes by the name of Connor Frazier. #2 is the third of his brothers that carry on a legacy of winning in the Big D. Dangerous through the air and dangerous with his feet. He is not alone for he is defended by Montgomery County's most consistent offensive line. Mark O'Hara is an animal on the ground as are the aerial assault weapons that include Joel Ross, Zach Bradshaw, and Brandon Phelps.
If Damascus reigns loudly in claiming king, they must be careful. Quince Orchard is stealthy. They are young and they are dangerous. At 9-2, The Cougars are having their lowest win total since going 8-3 in 2004. They have won 10 or more since. Their loses has all been close so do not count the Cougars out. They lost by a total of 8 points to 3A Division Champ Damascus in week 2 and 4A East Division Champ Sherwood in week 10. I won't doubt to see this game come down to the final drive. Aside from Mark Green, there really isn't a superstar for the Cougars. They are a well-defined team. Drew Murphy is overshadowed by his quarterback peers but he gets it done. He rose like a phoenix in last week's game going from throwing a hat-trick of interceptions to punching sixes into the goal line. Alex Twine is an underrated weapon on defense as is linebacker Marcus Newby. If there's any other team in the state that reminds me of QO this year is Suitland in 2006. They were a no-talk team that just took care of business all the way to Baltimore.
